Victron Energy's smart lithium batteries are lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries and are available with 12.8V or 25.6V in various capacities. They can be wired in series, parallel and series/parallel so that a battery bank can be created for system voltages of 12V, 24V or 48V. The maximum number of batteries in a single system is 20, allowing a maximum of 84kWh of energy to be stored in a 12V system and up to 102kWh in a 24V or 48V system. To reduce the required balancing time, we recommend using as many different batteries in series as possible for the application. 24V systems are best built using 24V batteries and 48V systems are best built using two 24V batteries in series. The alternative of four 12V batteries in the power supply does work, but requires more time for regular balancing.
One LFP cell has a nominal voltage of 3.2V. The 12.8V battery is taken off the 4 cells plugged into the power supply and the 25.6V battery is taken off the 8 cells plugged into the power supply.
Why lithium iron phosphate batteries?
Dischargeable
The lead-acid battery is currently failing due to sulfation:
    If the battery is operated for a long time in a deficit mode (i.e. if it is rarely or never fully charged).
   If it is left partially charged or, in a worse case, completely discharged (yacht or mobile home in winter).
LFP battery:
    Does not need to be fully charged. The lifetime is even slightly increased in case of partial charge instead of full charge. This is the main advantage of LFP compared to lead-acid batteries.
    Other advantages are the wide operating temperature range, excellent cycling performance, low internal resistance and high efficiency.
LFP is therefore a suitable choice for a wide range of applications.
Efficient
    In a number of applications (especially in the case of solar and/or off-grid wind power plants), energy efficiency can be of major importance.
    The round-trip energy efficiency (discharge from 100% to 0% and back to 100% charge) of the average lead-acid battery is 80%.
    The round-trip energy efficiency of the LFP battery is 92%.
    The charging process of lead-acid batteries becomes increasingly inefficient when the 80% state of charge is reached, leading to 50% or even less in solar systems where several energy recovery is required (the battery operates at 70% or 100% state of charge).
In contrast, the LFP battery reaches 90% capacity even under conditions of soft discharge.

Expensive?
LFP batteries are expensive compared to lead-acid batteries. However, in low cost applications, the high cost will be more than offset by the longer life, superior reliability and superior performance.
Bluetooth
    Using Bluetooth, you can monitor the cell voltage, temperature and alarm status.
   Instant readout: The VictronConnect app can display the most relevant data on the device list page without having to connect to the product.
   Very useful for locating a (potential) problem, such as unavailability of the cells.
Our LFP batteries have integrated balancing and monitoring of the cells. Cables for balancing/monitoring cells¯ can be cut and must be connected to a battery management system (BMS).
Battery Management System (BMS)
    Generates an immediate alarm whenever the battery voltage drops below 3.1V (adjustable 2.85V - 3.15V).
   Disconnects or disables the alarm whenever the battery voltage drops to less than 2.8V (adjustable 2.6V - 2.8V).
    Stops the charging process whenever the battery cell voltage increases to more than 3.75V or when the temperature is too high or low.
