The Victron 265 Ah deep cycle VRLA GEL lead acid battery uses advanced silica gel electrolyte technology, giving it many advantages over traditional liquid electrolyte batteries. The main advantages include maintenance-free lifetime, low self-discharge, stability at various temperatures, high resistance to deep discharge and rapid capacity recovery, reduced susceptibility to vibration and mechanical damage due to gel plate attachment, elimination of electrolyte layering and related problems, and reduced electrode corrosion and sulfation processes.

Victron Energy's gel batteries are ideal for smaller Off-Grid PV systems (islanded applications), such as powering cottages and other off-grid facilities where operation is seasonal.

Main features:
Electrolyte bound in the gel:
The electrolyte is secured in the gel by adhesive forces that bind it in the capillaries of the silica gel, which serves as a carrier. This binding of the electrolyte in the gel and the use of a non-corrosive plastic housing eliminates the risk of acid leakage. The enclosed design minimises the release of vapours, making the batteries suitable for use in living quarters such as caravans.

VRLA technology:
The acronym VRLA stands for Valve Regulated Lead Acid, which means the batteries are sealed. The gas escapes through safety valves only in the event of overcharging or cell failure.
VRLA batteries are maintenance free for life.

Life:
Batteries last 500 cycles at 80% discharge, 750 cycles at 50% discharge and 1800 cycles at 30% discharge.
